Why I’m Replacing my Oven Mitts with Silicone Cooking Gloves

October 31, 2014 by A Savory Feast 10 Comments

Remember awhile back when I told you why you need to switch to silicone baking liners? I was convinced that silicone was the way to go for baking. That’s why when I was contacted about reviewing these Silicone Cooking Gloves, I knew I would love them.

Silicone Cooking Gloves

Sure, these cooking gloves are pretty funny-looking, but they work! They are great for getting hot food out of the oven, grilling, cooking over an open fire, and even removing a tight lid from a jar. I put these gloves to the test and am excited to share my experience with you.

I made this Dutch Apple Pie from @sixsistersstuff today! #yum #apples #applepie #sixsistersstuff #sharefood #recipe #foodie

Last week I shared the picture above on Instagram of the pie I made using a recipe from Six Sister’s Stuff. They call it The Best Dutch Apple Pie, and it lives up to it’s name. It was so good, I made it twice! I used my new silicone cooking gloves to remove it from the oven, and it worked great!

Easy to clean. My absolute favorite thing about these gloves is how easy they are to clean! I am always getting sauces and other drips on my cloth oven mitts. They get dirty and stained regularly and have to be put in the washing machine. Many of my cooking gloves are faded or misshaped because they went through the washing machine. Silicone gloves can be rinsed or wiped to quickly and easily remove any food that gets on them.

More heat-resistant. These gloves can handle heat up to 446 degrees fahrenheit. I’ve noticed that as my cloth oven mitts get older, they get thinner become less heat resistant. If I’m holding a hot pan for more than a few seconds, I start to feel the heat right through them. These silicone gloves felt cool no matter how long I held the hot pie pan.

Versatility. I mentioned some of the ways you can use these gloves above, but they can also be used in lots of other ways! They are resistant to cold, too, so you can use them for handling ice or anything frozen. You can even wear them while you wash dishes to protect your hands.

Get a grip. These silicone gloves are covered in raised dots that help you get a better grip. I also like that it has a spot for all 5 fingers. It gives you much more functionality when you try to grab something, and it means more versatility for all the uses I mentioned above.

So far, the only disadvantage is that they are one-size fits all, so they were a little bulky on me. It would be nice if they had small, medium and large.

What do you think? Would you give these Silicone Cooking Gloves a try?

I think YES YES YES! I love our silicone baking sheets and gloves :)) The only thing about the baking sheets though is that they sometimes require different baking times from, say, parchment paper. But other than that I’m loving silicone. And Jenna your kitchen is beautiful– I have some serious kitchen envy right now.

That is a good thing to know about the baking sheets! I haven’t gotten any yet, but I will remember that for when I do. And thank you so much!!
