Dinner and a Movie: Ideas for a Cozy Date Night at Home

January 16, 2017 by A Savory Feast Leave a Comment

Date night doesn’t have to mean leaving the house! Sometimes the best dates are cozy nights spent at home enjoying a homemade dinner and a movie.

With a new baby, it’s tough for my husband and I to go out for a regular date night. Right now William has a hard time being away from Mommy and isn’t a big fan of taking a bottle. We still try to get out every so often, but usually our date nights are at home.

This year I’m making more of a point to have a designated date night each week. It’s a night where we focus on being together, whether we play games, watch a movie or sit on the front porch and chat. Now that William is going to bed around 6 or 7, it’s much easier to make time to spend as a couple.

Last week I planned a Dinner & A Movie date night for us. Come see how I made this at home date night extra special.

Dinner

Sometimes I like to cook a special dinner for date night, maybe something we don’t eat often such as pasta. But this week I had been cooking dinner every night, so I decided it was a good excuse to take a break. I picked up some pho takeout that afternoon. It worked out perfectly because we didn’t have to worry about eating at a specific time. The restaurant I go to gives us the broth in one container and all the meats, veggies and other add-ins in another container so I can put everything in the fridge and heat it up once we are ready to eat.

Candles

When we have date night at home, I like to make sure that it’s different from a normal night in. Part of that is a special meal or dessert, but getting the house ready by tidying up and lighting some candles can make the night feel special, too.

A Movie

Andrew and I have a few favorite shows and most nights we watch a couple episodes before bed. But watching a movie is something we don’t do as often, so it feels special.

A Cozy Blanket

After dinner, it’s time to curl up on the couch to watch a movie. A cozy blanket to snuggle under is a must! We have a basket of blankets by the TV so that we always have one close by.

Dessert for Two

A special dessert is always an essential part of our date nights! For this date night, I made this Chunky Chewy Skillet Cookie that Everyday Made Fresh shared in a guest post for me. My little 6.5 Inch Skillet is my go-to for making fun date night desserts.
