Are you on the fence about signing up for Amazon Prime? I’ve been a member for several years now and can’t live without it! Today I’m sharing a few of the reasons why you need Amazon Prime.
I am an Amazon Prime associate. If you sign up or make a purchase through the links in this post, I will receive a small comission. The content and opinions in this post are my own.
This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for months as I use Amazon Prime all the time and want to share my excitement about it. It’s definitely made my life so much easier!
So what is it that makes an Amazon Prime membership so great? Glad you asked!
Two Day Shipping
Let’s start with the obvious. Most people know already that Amazon Prime members get free two day shipping on any item marked “prime.”
Before Amazon, I rarely shopped online because I HATE paying for shipping! It usually makes me question the order enough to just not get it. But with free shipping, I can quickly order something I’m needing at a great price AND get it in two days (or less sometimes!).
I’ve gotten into a habit of checking Amazon whenever I randomly think of something I am needing or wanting. For example, the other day I forgot to buy razors at the store, so I found a good deal on Amazon.
Prime Music App
Last year I discovered the Amazon Prime Music app, which is free for members. It’s completely replaced Spotify and Pandora for me. They have a huge selection of music, and the best part is: NO COMMERCIALS!
Prime Early Access Deals
Every day, Amazon features a ton of Deals of the Day. Members get Prime Early Access Deals, where they get to see and purchase the deals before anyone else. The biggest advantage to this is for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Amazon runs some awesome deals on those days, and as a Prime member you are able to snatch them up before they are gone!
Prime Video
In addition to music streaming, you can also stream thousands of movies and TV shows. There is a large selection of Prime Video you can stream for free as a Prime member, as well as content that you can rent or buy.
We never rent movies from Redbox anymore, since we have the option to stream them using Prime or another service.
Amazon Basics
Amazon Basics is their own line of “basic” products. They have all sorts of items, from electronics to kitchen gadgets to pet supplies. We bought an Amazon Basics foam roller recently and it was about one-third of the price of a brand name one from Sports Authority.
Subscribe and Save
This a great feature to save on items you buy on a regular basis, such as vitamins, workout supplements, toiletries and more. You save up to 15% and can set up a schedule so you’ll receive more every 1 to 6 months.
Another really cool feature I’ve been wanting to try is the Dash Button. You can get them for household products, foods and more. For example, you can buy a Dash Button for laundry detergent. You place it in your laundry room and press it when you are running low. You’ll have a new bottle shipped to you! The Dash Button costs $5.99, but right now they have a deal where you get $5.99 off your first purchase, so it pays for itself!
Don’t have Amazon Prime yet? Give it a shot and try Amazon Prime with a 30-Day Free Trial. I think you’ll find it’s worth it!

I love Amazon Prime for the shipping! This is our second year of having it. Unfortunately, I’m not impressed with the movies and tv shows on demand. I sort of feel like after paying so much for the membership that some of those older things should be free and included. My daughter likes to watch a lot of old school Nickelodeon shows, and most of those are 1.99 an episode. :-/ So the only reason we keep it is the 2 two day shipping.

The free shipping is definitely my favorite part! I like having the option to rent or buy movies from Amazon, but I’m with you on the selection. I tend to have a hard time finding free options that I want to watch!

I’ve been contemplating join AP for awhile now. I currently have Spotify Premium and love it, simply for the fact that I can download my playlist so that I don’t have to use my data all of the time. Do you know if you can do that with an AP membership?
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
As far as I know, they don’t have that option on Amazon Prime. You can create an offline library, but you have to purchase each song. I can see how that could be a big deal for you! It doesn’t bother me much since I am almost always on wifi and I don’t spend much time in the car where it would use up my data.

I Love Amazon Prime and truly can’t imagine living without it. I don’t use the music that often and need to remember it is there.
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
I can’t imagine living without it, either! The other day I purchased something from another site and it feels like it’s taking FOREVER to get here without two day shipping!

I’ve had prime for years, since back when I lived in the UK. There it was ONE day shipping, amazing! And the new service, delivery within NYC within a few hours, man I wish I still lived there sometimes. 🙂 We do subscription service for diapers and wipes, etc. Very helpful. The only down side is the wasteful packaging…trying to be eco friendly when I get a ton of boxes with 1 small thing inside each so they can ship it all out fastest…makes me feel bad sometimes. (But I still order from them like crazy, so clearly not that bad!)
Have you watched Mozart in the Jungle yet? It’s an Amazon show, it’s excellent!
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
Wow, one day shipping would be awesome! I live close to an Amazon distribution center so every now and then I am able to get something in a day.
I so agree with you about the wasteful packaging, though! Sometimes they send my stuff in a box that is way bigger than the item. That is an advantage of the Prime Pantry, though.
I’ll have to check out Mozart in the Jungle, thanks for telling me about it!

I LOVE Prime. I used it and loved it when we lived in Oregon near a big grocery store, but now we live in rural Mississippi and I don’t think I could function without it. We use to buy a lot of household necessities, from toilet paper to breakfast bars to makeup.
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
It’s so handy for that! Even though I have the grocery store nearby, it’s nice to order something if I forget so I don’t have to go back.

Amazon Prime is SO handy! My sister gets the student discount for being in college and we are constantly using it to get free two day shipping. It definitely has perks!!
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
That discount is awesome! So nice that you can take advantage of it, too.
Iryna says
I totally agree with these points. We also have a prime membership and it’s a definitely worthy investment.
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
I don’t know what I would do without it! It makes life so much easier for me.
Kelsie Kleinmeyer says
Wow! Who knew there were all of these extra things like prime music and video? Crazy stuff! I think I would consider getting it just for the shipping! Amazon is awesome. Thanks so much for linking up with The Alder Collective!
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
Yes! I think it pays for itself with free shipping alone, but when you think about all the other great features they offer, it’s hard to pass up.

I love my Amazon Prime! It is an amazing savings to have and I can’t imagine living without it now!
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
I don’t know what I would do without it!

For me, it was the music. I almost stopped paying for music. In addition, when I do regular shipping, I get music credits so what they do not have for free, I purchase for free.
Jenna Owens (@aSavoryFeast) says
The music app is awesome! It definitely makes the membership fee more than worth it for me. Now I can’t stand using other music apps because of the commercials.
