Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

March 3, 2014 by A Savory Feast 9 Comments

I love smoothies but never really liked making them for breakfast, they just weren’t filling enough. That is, until I tried adding oatmeal! I definitely am a texture person when it comes to food, and I wasn’t sure how the oatmeal would be in a smoothie (they are supposed to be smooth, right?!). As long as you blend it up, the oatmeal adds a nice, thicker texture to the smoothie.

I recently got a mini blender that just makes one smoothie at a time. Before, I just used a regular blender but hardly ever made smoothies because it was such a pain to clean. The mini blender can go in the dishwasher so it is much easier to clean. This means it is much more likely that I will actually make smoothies!

Have you tried putting oatmeal in a smoothie? Let me know what else you mixed in! I’d love to hear your ideas and give them a try.

Here’s the recipe:

1 cup milk
1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1 tbsp honey
5 large frozen strawberries

1. Combine all ingredients in a blender in the order listed.
2. Blend well.

Not only does this sound DELISH, but super easy too! I have tons of strawberries in my freezer from my strawberry patch last Summer…. I’m so going to be making these 🙂 Thanks!

That’s smart to use a small blender! Anything to make breakfast easier in the morning : ) do you think oats could be used in-place of a banana in a smoothie? I HATE bananas, but I like how thick they make a smoothie. The problem is, if I can taste the banana even a little bit, I can’t drink the smoothie. *sigh* Smoothie problems…

I have the same problem as you, Megan! I can’t stand the taste of banana! I never put them in my smoothies but I do think you could substitute oats in any smoothie that calls for banana. The oats make the smoothie thicker which is probably what the banana does as well.

Sounds delicious! I’ve had the same problems with smoothies not being filling enough, so I’m definitely going to give this a try. Though I might wait until the ground had defrosted first!

There are so many varieties of smoothies. I haven’t tried adding oatmeal, but have pinned it for future trying. I am stopping by from the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party

This sounds like a great way to thicken up a smoothie without adding banana! I’ve got some strawberries, so I just might have to give this recipe a try. 🙂 I’d love it if you shared this with us on Five Friday Finds!
