How to Save Money on K-Cups

September 4, 2014 by A Savory Feast 67 Comments

How to Save Money on K-Cups
A few months ago I got my first Keurig! I love how quickly it brews up a cup of coffee. It didn’t take Andrew and I long to go through the K-Cups that I was given to review. Since then, I’ve been looking for some affordable ways to stock up.

Using K-cups is definitely cheaper than buying a Starbucks each morning, but it’s still quite a bit more expensive than brewing ground coffee. Fortunately, there are several ways to still benefit from the convenience of a Keurig without doing too much damage to your wallet.

Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links.

1. Buy in bulk.

Sam’s Club has 80-count packages of K-Cups for around $40! They have some variety packs as well, so you don’t have to commit to one flavor of coffee. Buying in bulk would definitely take up some space, but it’s worth it if you have a place to put them!

2. Buy from Amazon.

Amazon is a great way to find a deal on K-Cups. Plus, you can get all sorts of brands and flavors that are hard to find in stores. You can also try many different varieties by ordering a 40-Count Coffee Variety Sampler Pack for under $25!

If you are an Amazon Prime Member , you get free 2-day shipping on Prime products, so you never have to worry about going a day without your caffeine fix.

3. Buy a reusable filter.

Want to be able to use your favorite ground coffee? Get the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter for about $5! It takes a little more effort than just popping a K-Cup into the machine, but all you have to do is add a scoop of coffee grounds to the filter and you are ready to go.

I was surprised at how inexpensive these filters are! I still love the convenience of the K-Cups, but I might get one of these just to have for when I run out of K-Cups. I also have an amazing pumpkin ground coffee that I want to use with my Keurig, so this filter would be perfect!

4. Buy Store Brand Versions.

Wal-mart and Target have store brand versions for less than the name brand K-Cups. Check your local grocery store to see what they offer. Even Trader Joe’s has their own version!

5. Buy from Bed Bath and Beyond.

You can get free shipping on K-Cups when you order online from Bed Bath and Beyond!  If you use Ebates, you can get money back for the purchase. Then, get even more money back by bringing your receipt and a 20% off coupon. They will refund you for the 20%!

6. Buy just about anywhere online and get money back from Ebates!

Like I mentioned in #5, if you use Ebates you can get money back for your purchase! This site is so cool! All you do is start your online shopping trip at their site and type in the site you are looking for. Then click to go to that site and start shopping. It’s that easy!

All the sites and stores I already mentioned (Sam’s Club, Amazon and Bed Bath and Beyond) are on Ebates! Plus they have all my other favorite places like Ulta, Target, Charlotte Russe and Old Navy. I’m pretty excited about this site, if you can’t tell!

Do you have any other tips for saving money on K-Cups? I would love to hear them! If you try one of these tips, I would love to hear about it.

Here is another tip…in my area we have groups on fb that you can trade k-cups for, so when you get large boxes from sams, or variety packs and you dont like a flavor..no problem..just post what you have and trade or sale them to someone! I am sure there are other groups out there on fb or who knows where on the wide internet, but I am sure if you google it you will find someone local or someone who will ship 🙂

That is a great idea! I’ve got some teas leftover from my last variety pack that I’ll probably never use.

Interesting post. I have loved the idea of a keurig, but put it off because the k-cups are so much more expensive than buying my coffee. I drink like a whole pot of coffee a day and it didn’t seem economical. But, love the idea of having a fresh cup every time!! Decisions, decisions.

The reusable filter might be the best option for you. You would still buy the same amount of ground coffee but you could have it made fresh each time you got a cup.

I think it totally depends on the brand and flavor of K-Cups you get! It sounds like the filter would produce pretty good coffee, because you can use whatever you like.

I purchased a reusable filter and loved how I could brew the ground coffee I already had. However, I noticed my Keurig tended to get dirtier faster with the loose coffee, so I would recommend cleaning the Keurig more often if you use the filter cup.
