How to Make Fruit Infused Water

November 20, 2014 by A Savory Feast 34 Comments

Do you have a hard time drinking enough water each day? I’ve got a great way to help you enjoy water, and get additional health benefits: infused water! Adding fruits and veggies to your water can boost the flavor and get you excited about getting enough water each day.
How to Make Infused Water

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by FlavFusion Water Bottles. However, all opinions are my own.

Infused water is a lot of fun to make, and can help you want to drink more water. The first thing you need to do is get some ingredients to make your water with. Fruits are delicious options, and there are also lots of vegetables and plant leaves you might like.

In addition to making your water taste better, infusing water with fruits or vegetables has lots health benefits! To help you decide which ingredients to add to your water, here are some ideas and their benefits.

What to Infuse Your Water With

Lemons contain citric acid, which helps in the digestion process. They are also a great source of Vitamin C.

Cucumber helps to remove toxins from the body. It’s great for your bones and teeth, and even helps eliminate bad breath!

Grapefruit is a good source of Vitamins A and C, and can help lower blood cholesterol. It is also known to help prevent certain forms of cancer.

Mint helps with the digestive process and can sooth a stomach ache. It helps prevent cancer and can slow the growth of bacteria.

Blueberries are an anti-oxidant and contain potassium. They also contain vitamins that can help your body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Oranges help you stay healthy by providing lots of Vitamin C. They also contain potassium and calcium.

Strawberries contain many vitamins and minerals to help prevent cancer, inflammation and disease.

Raspberries can help increase your metabolism and are a great source of many vitamins.

Watermelon is rich in electrolytes, so it’s great for working out or playing sports. It also contains potassium, which helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

Next, you need something to make your infused water in. You can use any cup, mason jar, or pitcher that you have. I like to use Infuser Water Bottles from FlavFusion. They make it so much easier to make infused water, and the basket keeps seeds from getting into your water.

FlavFusion White Water Bottle

The first water bottle I got to try was the FlavFusion 26 Oz Infuser Water Bottle with Flip Top Sipper Lid. This bottle has a bigger basket, so you can add more fruits and veggies. It fits in any cup holder and is easy to carry around the gym.

FlavFusion Red Water Bottle

The second water bottle I received was the FlavFusion 25 oz Infuser Water Bottle with Locking Flip Top Lid. I really liked the flip lid on this one. The basket was slightly smaller, but I could still fit a lot of ingredients in it. I also like the red color and how easy it is to grip.

Once you have your ingredients and something to make your water in, you just have to decide which ingredients to combine! Place them in the water and put it in the fridge to infuse. The longer you leave it, the stronger the flavor will be.

Have you tried making infused water? What are some of your favorite ingredients?

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. Thanks to Tomoson.com!

I LOVE drinking infused water! Mint, Lemon and Cucumber are my favorite go-to additions. I also would add in Basil with my Strawberries which made for a different flavor.

I bought a mint plant so I’ve been adding that! I need to try basil with strawberries sometime. That sounds delicious!

I’ve been a big fan of flavored water but I’ve never seen these bottles before! I love all of those fruits and veggies so I might have to try this to see if I like it!

These bottles are so good! I don’t want to accidentally sip a piece of fruit with my water, so it’s nice to have the separate basket.

I love fruit infused water but I never make it, so this post is an awesome reminder! I also need to be drinking more water so this would help me out a lot with managing to do that.

The pitchers are great for parties! I love being able to create my own flavors in an individual water bottle, though.

This is a really great idea. I usually leave a piece of peeled orange in my water overnight, but this seems like I’d get more of a concentrated flavor. Will check it out. Thanks!

Whenever you drink out of this bottle, the water runs through the basket, so you get extra fruit flavor!

So glad you posted this! I’ve really been slacking on my water drinking since it has been getting cold. Way too much coffee and not enough water! I’ve started adding a splash of cranberry juice which has helped, but this post has given me so much more inspiration! Thank you so much for including the benefits for each fruit. I needed a reminder of just how much I need to be drinking more water and how many benefits can come from infusing it with fruit!

You’re welcome! I’ve been wanting to try making infused water with cranberries. I think you would have to cut them in half to release the flavor, though.

I have a dumb question. What is the difference with putting the fruit in the bottle as opposed to the basket?

The basket helps to keep you from accidentally drinking the seeds or any parts of the fruit that break off. It would work to have the fruit by itself in the bottle, but you might want to strain it out before drinking.

You could stick them with a pin instead, much quicker 🙂

That would be great! I always have a hard time spending the money on athletic stuff but it’s so justified since I work out several times a week.

This is a neat product. I’m definitely guilty about not getting enough water; I’d probably bleed coffee and iced tea if you stuck me with a needle. But I like the idea of fruit/veggie infused water, I’d think it would definitely help those stubborn water drinkers like myself.

How long can you leave the fruit in the water and keep refilling the water? I use mason jars and bought the plastic lids to keep water in the refrigerator. I then bought the straws and lids that go with the mason jars (Ball brand I believe?) I have an infuser bottle that I use for anything with ginger, because it will go up the straw….yuck!! I just found your website and love it. I have it saved in my favorites and water on my Pintrest. Thank you in advance!!

I personally refilled the water once or twice, after that the fruit starts to lose it’s flavor. It depends on how long you let it sit, as well. If you let it sit for a day or more you might not be able to refill because all the flavor has come out of the fruit. Those infuser bottles are great, aren’t they?

I love the taste of watermelon but I had no idea that it is rich in electrolytes. I want to get flavored water with watermelon now. That way I can drink and rehydrate even faster.
