With a variety of online recipe sources such as Pinterest, Foodgawker and AllRecipes, why do we need cookbooks? I didn’t know the answer myself until I started receiving cookbooks to review from Blogging for Books.
Now, I have a collection of books I’ve received from Blogging for Books, along with a few I’ve bought along the way. Each one is different and filled with so many recipes I need to try!
1. Gorgeous Food Photography!
Typically, one of the first thing that draws me to a cookbook is the photography. I love to flip through cookbooks filled with beautiful pictures. I may be weird, but I would actually use cookbooks as coffee table books.
2. Easy Access to A Compilation of Recipes in the Same Category
If you are interested in a certain style of cooking or trying to stick to a Paleo diet, having a cookbook filled with recipes and ideas can be really helpful. If you want to try making sushi or cooking Indian dishes, it’s nice to have a collection of dishes to make in one place.
Often times these cookbooks have other helpful extras, such as glossaries, shopping lists, or helpful tips and tricks. Some of the healthy cookbooks I’ve gotten include guidelines for healthy eating or include better-for-you substitution ideas.
3. Cookbooks are Easier to Use While You are Cooking
A lot of times I end up using my phone or laptop to follow a recipe while I’m cooking. It can get annoying because texts or other notifications pop up and you lose the page you were on, and you keep having to turn it back on to see the recipe. Not to mention how hard it can be to read a recipe off of a small phone screen!
A few of my favorite cookbooks:
Homemade Decadence
A Good Food Day
Clean Slate
A Kitchen in France
The Bar Book
The Paleo Chef
The New Indian Slow Cooker
Do own any cookbooks? What are some of your favorites?

I love cookbooks! Giada’s Feel Good Food is one of my favorites and I’ve been exploring my Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam cookbook. The photography is amazing and there are so many traditional Vietnamese dishes!

I’d love to try some Vietnamese dishes! There is a local hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant we love here. It would be fun to try to make some of the dishes at home.

Jenna, what is the name and location for Vietnamese restaurant around here?
Jenna Brussee says

I LOVE cookbooks! I love finding great recipes, and it makes me feel as if I’m branching out in my cooking. 🙂

That’s why I love getting a cookbook that’s out of my element, like the Indian one or even the Paleo cookbook.

My next blogging for books book is going to be a cookbook and I’m so excited! I love food photography, and I am more comfortable cooking out of a cookbook then my computer screen!
Jenna Brussee says
I love getting cookbooks from them! Which one are you getting?

I agree cookbooks are much better than just online recipes. I made my own family favorites book to be able to make sure that I have them handy in the kitchen and on demand. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.

I have been meaning to put together a cookbook of our favorite recipes. Someday I’ll find the time!

It’s true that I was joking about why my family needed such a huge supply of cookbooks when I went to visit them–because they get recipes off the internet all the time. But sometimes they’re cool to read, just for the inspiration!
Jenna Brussee says
They can be lots of fun to flip through! It can be crazy how many cookbooks some people have, though.

Church cookbooks are so fun because you can try your friend’s recipes! We have some from school fundraisers, too.
