Life can get pretty crazy sometimes. I’ve definitely learned the hard way that it’s so important to take time to relax and recharge, no matter how full your schedule is. I’ve got 6 ideas for easy ways to take a few minutes here and there to rest.
I’ve been in a super busy season of life lately. I’ve been planning my wedding, working part-time as a nanny and spending as much time as I can working on the blog. My fiancé and I just started house hunting this week, so that has added another level of craziness! It’s been a really fun and exciting season, but I get exhausted and burnt so quickly if I don’t take time to recharge.
Like I said, I had to learn the hard way how important it is to relax. When I know I have a lot to do, I fill every spare minute trying to do as much as I can. I love my lists and being organized and staying on top of everything. This can definitely be a good thing, but I have to make sure I schedule in time to just chill.
Finding time to rest can be difficult, but it’s so important to do! Let’s talk about a few of my favorite ways to relax. These are all easy to fit in, whether you can spare a few minutes or a few hours.
Get Some Sun
Even though I live in Florida, I don’t spend nearly as much time outside in the sun as I should! I live super close to the beach and the pool, so I am going to start making time to go more often. When I don’t have much time, I like to sit out on my deck for 10 minutes and unwind for a bit.
Treat Yo Self!
Any Parks and Rec fans who caught that reference? One of my latests traditions is to take time for a little snack or coffee when I get home from work. I usually have to get right to work on blogging, but having a little treat like these Fiber One Cheesecake Bars is a great way to reset! They are also great for bringing along to the pool or beach, a snack at work or a simple dessert.
I picked up a box of the Fiber One Cheesecake Salted Caramel and Strawberry Bars when I was at Publix doing some shopping. You can use these coupons to save when you give them a try! They are the perfect size for an indulgent treat that isn’t too bad for you.
Journal
I used to journal almost every day, but I’ve gotten away from it in the past couple years. Lately I’ve been wanting to start again, so I picked up a new journal and have been trying to make time to write in it. Writing down your thoughts, prayers, ideas, or just what happened to you that day is a great way to calm down and feel at peace. It can make you feel a lot better when life is crazy!
Grab a Coffee
For the past couple of years I have been saving and budgeting pretty hardcore, so my trips to Starbucks have been pretty limited. Lately I’ve been realizing that it’s something that makes me happy and can turn a long day around. While I still limit myself to once a week or less, I think it’s totally okay to splurge a little when it’s something that makes a difference in my day.
Schedule Time to Unplug
As a blogger, I do a lot of work from my phone to keep up with social media and answer emails. Making sure that I take time each day to put my phone away makes a big difference. Not having it on gives me a chance to slow down and really relax.
Take a Bath
You don’t have to have a lot of extra time in order to take a bath. Soak in a hot bath for 15 minutes or so before going to bed. You’ll unwind and be able to sleep much better! Light a candle and do a DIY facial for an even more relaxing evening.

Yes to all of these. This post is a great reminder to take time for yourself. I need to get outside more often!

It makes such a difference for me! When I haven’t seen the sun in awhile I start getting grumpy. Fortunately I can get outside with the kids I nanny most days.

Coffee and a bath are my two favorites. I always forget how relaxing a bath is, and then I finally take one and wonder why I don’t do it more often… =)
Jenna Brussee says
I know, right? I just took one this week and was like “why has it been so long?”

I love fiber one…for the taste…which can be a problem when you eat a lot just for the taste….ya know? lol
Jenna Brussee says
Me too! They aren’t the healthiest choice, so I have to limit myself. But they are fantastic for an indulgent treat.

That flavor sounds really good! These are such great tips! For me it’s all about deconnecting from social media/computers……that really helps when I am stressed and busy.

That’s something I’ve had to work at. With blogging I always have something I could be doing. I try to make time each night and most weekends to just take a break.

Thanks, Jebbica! Yes, I’m in Peony! I’ve been to your blog a couple times 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

Baths or long hot showers are my escape for stressful times; I love being able to just sit in warm water. During my senior year of college, every time I had to write a paper, I would literally take a 15 minute (or longer) shower right before. I would relax for a few minutes and then I would start thinking about my thesis statement. I wouldn’t get out until I had one; and every one I had was super solid! There was just something about thinking it out in a warm shower that helped!
Jenna Brussee says
That’s a really smart idea! It’s always easier to think and be creative when you are relaxed.

I LOVE THIS POST! I feel like I can relate to you in the sense of being busy. I work 6-2, but I find I am always biusy whether it’s meeting someone for coffee, hanging out with my ‘little sister’ or going camping I find I am always busy. Thanks for posting these tips on ways to relax, as I am beginning to realize sometimes I need me time. I totally agree with the unplugging moment. I am always on my phone and I realize sometimes I do need to set it aside. I also love journaling, but I haven’t done any in awhile and I hope to get back at it soon. Great post.
Jenna Brussee says
Thanks, Tess. That sounds like a pretty busy schedule! I hope some of these ideas will work for you. Finding a little “me time” to relax and recharge is so important.

I’m definitely going to have to pick up some of these Fiber One bars. I love Fiber One in general and I’m a huge cheesecake fan. These would be a great way to indulge without actually getting off track.
Spending time outdoors is my best way to relax. Whether it’s an activity like hiking or just lounging at the pool, getting some Vitamin D really helps me.
Jenna Brussee says
Their cheesecake bars are my favorite! I’m a fan of all their products, too. They have a lot of great options to let me splurge a little but not totally break my diet.
Eli @ Coach Daddy says
Unplugging is the toughest one for me. I like when I’m somewhere, like fishing with the girls, where I don’t get service. Being forced to unplug works too!
Jenna Brussee says
That’s true! Sometimes it takes being forced to unplug to get me to actually do it, but I always feel refreshed after.
